Zotefoams Centenary Awards

To mark 100 years of the unique Zotefoams three-stage process, Zotefoams presented awards to the companies who turn Zotefoams materials into products that save weight, save energy, or deliver a creative solution for a challenging application. There was also an individual award to honor the ingenuity and dedication of someone who has applied their expertise to establish Zotefoams materials as an optimal solution to a real-world challenge.

Technifab Inc. is pleased to announce that we won in two categories: Most Innovative Product and Foam Innovator of the Year (Technical).

Technifab won the Most Innovative Product for its Flexible Environmental Control System (ECS) Duct. This Flexible ECS Duct distributes warm and cool air in the cabin of aircraft or space vehicles for passenger comfort. The design incorporates self-aligning “clamp-less” cuffs with a positive stop to facilitate accurate and efficient installation. Installation can be accomplished using only one hand. The highly flexible nature of this duct allows it to be used in areas with a tight bend radius; up to .75 of the duct diameter without compromising the cross-sectional area. The versatility of the flexible design allows the duct to expand in length 20% and compress 35% for ultimate adaptability and convenience.

Foam Innovator of the Year (Technical) was awarded to Bruce Whitman, Technical Fellow, Technifab Inc. Bruce Whitman has over 20 years experience as a specialist in fabricating foam components, particularly for the aviation market. Along with the Technifab design team, Bruce was the creative leader responsible for the development of a new complex commercial aircraft window housing that serves as a mounting surface for an electronically-dimmable window pane. The utilization of foam for window seals was first introduced in commercial aircraft to save weight. Bruce designed both the seal and the tooling to manufacture it – the combination was crucial in enabling this innovation to succeed. This window seal application has a highly engineered approach due to its multifaceted requirements and is required to meet superior aesthetic standards in the aircraft cabin.
